Discipleship Pathway

The Gospel Church exists to share the gospel and make disciples who know they are loved and sent.

The pathway is the means by which we hope to accomplish our mission of sharing the gospel and making disciples who know they are loved and sent. We know that our life with Christ cannot be boiled down to a few simple, quick steps. However, this is our attempt to develop well-rounded disciples of Jesus and integrate the various ministries of our church. We pray that it provides a clear path and expectations for you as you grow in the ways of Jesus.

The Pathway

Discipleship is the process of becoming more like Christ in the community of God by the Spirit of God.  This process  incorporates the whole person: what you believe, who you are, and what you do. At The Gospel Church, we call that your conviction, character, and competence. The process, however, is not like advancing through school-grades (i.e., going from English 101 to 201). Rather, it is a framework for structuring your life.  It is a trellis that gives direction to your growth.

Our church is structured around semesters that focus on various theological emphases, for example, "The Nature of God," and every semester follows the framework of conviction, character, and competence. If you invest in life at The Gospel Church, you will find opportunities to engage every part of the Pathway as you seek to become more like Jesus. Please look at the tabs below to learn specific ways that you can jump into the Pathway now!

Conviction

Character

Competence

Conviction is grounding what we believe in sound doctrine. Jesus says, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32).

Every semester you will find new messages, classes, and readings that you can engage with, grounding your belief in specific theological topics.
Character is developing who we are through the practice of spiritual disciplines. Jesus says, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34-35).

Every semester we will rotate monthly through various spiritual disciplines that you can practice corporately on a Sunday, communally in Life Groups, and individually.
Competence is practicing what we are learning in community. Jesus says, "By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples" (John 15:8).

Every semester, our conviction and character practices will flow into opportunities to apply what you are learning in community settings. One of the primary ways this will happen is in our Life Groups.

The Pathway is meant to be more flexible than it is rigid. We know that we each will walk it out a bit differently. As a result, we invite you to settle in to this structure, own it for yourself, and commit to practicing it with your fellow partners at The Gospel Church. In developing your conviction, character, and competence in Christ, we believe you will be a disciple who shares the gospel and knows they are loved and sent.
